AuthWriter Terms of Service
Effective Date: February 23, 2026 • Last Updated: February 23, 2026
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) are a legally binding agreement between you (“you,” “your”) and AuthWriter (“AuthWriter,” “we,” “us,” “our”). These Terms govern your access to and use of:
- the AuthWriter website located at authwriter.com (the “Site”);
- the AuthWriter desktop application for macOS and Windows (the “App”); and
- any related content, features, support, and services we provide (collectively, the “Service”).
By downloading, installing, accessing, or using the Site or App, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
AI Chat Uses Mistral AI (Third-Party Terms Apply)
AuthWriter includes an AI chat/research feature powered by Mistral AI. When you use the AI feature, your inputs may be processed by Mistral AI as a third-party service provider. Your use of the AI feature is also subject to Mistral AI’s applicable terms and policies. You should review Mistral AI’s Terms before using the AI feature: https://legal.mistral.ai/terms.
Entire Agreement / Supersedes Prior Terms
These Terms supersede and replace any and all prior or contemporaneous agreements, terms, or understandings between you and AuthWriter relating to the Service. Your use of the Site and App is bound solely by these Terms (and any documents expressly incorporated by reference, such as the Privacy Policy).
1. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required by your jurisdiction) to use the Service. If you are under the age of majority where you live, you may use the Service only with permission of a parent or legal guardian.
2. Accounts
Some features require an account (including starting a trial and managing subscription access). You agree to provide accurate information and keep your credentials secure. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
3. Offline Use and Local Projects
AuthWriter is designed so your writing projects can be stored locally on your device. You own your writing and remain responsible for maintaining backups of Your Content (defined below). We are not responsible for loss of data due to device failure, deletion, corruption, sync issues, or user error.
4. Free Trial, Subscription, Billing, and Cancellation
Free Trial
AuthWriter offers a 14-day free trial. The trial starts when you first click “Start Trial” (or equivalent) in the App. Trial availability may be limited (for example, one per user and/or one per device).
Subscription
After the trial ends, continued access to subscription features requires an active subscription (currently $4.99/month, plus applicable taxes unless otherwise displayed at checkout).
Billing & Auto-Renewal
Subscriptions renew automatically unless you cancel before the renewal date. You authorize AuthWriter (and/or our payment processor) to charge your payment method on a recurring basis.
Managing / Canceling Your Subscription
You can manage or cancel your subscription inside the App with an internet connection by going to the Settings menu and selecting Manage Subscription.
Refunds
Except where required by law, fees are non-refundable. If you believe a charge is an error, contact support.
5. Device Fingerprinting (Fraud Prevention / Trial Enforcement)
To prevent fraud and abuse (including creating multiple accounts on the same device to obtain multiple trials), AuthWriter generates and uses a unique device fingerprint. This helps enforce trial limits and supports an offline-first design where your writing projects remain stored locally and are not uploaded to a cloud service by AuthWriter.
6. License to Use the App (EULA-Style Terms)
Subject to your compliance with these Terms, AuthWriter grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to download, install, and use the App on devices you own or control, solely for personal use or internal business use.
You may not (and may not permit others to):
- copy, modify, distribute, sell, rent, lease, or sublicense the App;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to derive source code (except to the extent prohibited by law);
- bypass, disable, tamper with, or circumvent any licensing, trial controls, security, or access restrictions;
- use the Service to distribute malware, harmful code, or content intended to disrupt systems;
- use the Service in violation of any law or regulation.
7. Your Content (You Own Your Writing)
“Your Content” means any writing, text, notes, character data, plotting data, and other content you create, import, or store in AuthWriter.
You retain all rights to Your Content. AuthWriter does not claim ownership of Your Content. You grant AuthWriter only the limited rights necessary to operate the Service (for example, to authenticate your account or transmit AI requests you choose to send).
8. AI Chat / Research Feature (Mistral AI)
How AI Processing Works
If you choose to use the AI chat/research feature, you are instructing AuthWriter to transmit text you provide (and any context you choose to include) to Mistral AI to generate a response. Mistral AI’s processing is governed by their terms and policies (see link above).
You’re Responsible for Review
AI output may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, offensive, or otherwise unsuitable. You are responsible for reviewing, editing, and verifying any AI output before relying on it.
No Professional Advice
AI output is provided for general informational and creative support only and is not professional advice. AuthWriter does not provide medical, legal, financial, or other regulated professional advice, and AI output should not be used as a substitute for consultation with qualified professionals.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- use the Service for illegal activity;
- create, request, upload, or transmit content that infringes intellectual property or privacy rights;
- attempt unauthorized access to systems or accounts;
- interfere with the Service’s operation;
- upload or transmit malware or harmful code;
- use the AI feature to generate or facilitate wrongdoing or evasion of law enforcement.
10. Reporting and Cooperation With Law Enforcement
AuthWriter may preserve and disclose information if we believe in good faith that it is necessary to:
- comply with a law, regulation, legal process, subpoena, or court order;
- enforce these Terms;
- address fraud, security, or technical issues; or
- protect the rights, property, or safety of AuthWriter, our users, or the public.
We may also cooperate with law enforcement where required by law or where we believe it is appropriate to prevent or respond to serious harm.
11. Privacy
Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle personal data, including your account email, device fingerprinting, and AI feature processing. By using the Service, you agree to our Privacy Policy:
Privacy Policy: https://authwriter.com/#privacy
12. Updates, Changes, and Availability
We may modify, update, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time. We may also update these Terms. If changes are material, we will provide notice as required by law. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
13. Termination
You may stop using the Service at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access if you violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or attempt to bypass licensing or security controls.
If your projects are stored locally, you may retain local files, but you may lose access to subscription-gated features.
14. Disclaimers
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE.” TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AUTHWRITER DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT.
We do not guarantee uninterrupted service, error-free operation, or that data loss will never occur. You are responsible for backups.
15. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AUTHWRITER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, DATA, OR GOODWILL ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, AUTHWRITER’S TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS IN ANY 12-MONTH PERIOD WILL NOT EXCEED THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO AUTHWRITER FOR THE SERVICE IN THE 12 MONTHS BEFORE THE EVENT GIVING RISE TO THE CLAIM (OR $50 IF YOU PAID NOTHING).
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations, so some of the above may not apply.
16. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless AuthWriter from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising out of or related to:
- your use of the Service;
- your violation of these Terms; or
- your infringement of any rights of another.
17. Governing Law and Venue
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, U.S.A., without regard to conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising from these Terms or the Service will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California, unless applicable law requires otherwise.
